Tunisia: rescue of a 24th marine turtle in the Gulf of Monastir

  • Sea turtles are endangered species worldwide

Tunisian fishermen intervened at the port of Monastir, a coastal city in the central-eastern part of the country, to save a sea turtle. The reptile accidentally stuck in the gillnets, fishermen Anis Essefi and Rayan Bouzgarou, was freed and returned to the sea, near the island Kuriat, where turtles lay their eggs.

In a publication on its Facebook page, the association Our Big Blue (non-governmental) praised the efforts of Tunisian fishermen, in Monastir, in the rescue of sea turtles.

“A 24th sea turtle during the year 2021 was saved by two Tunisian fishermen in the Gulf of Monastir, after getting accidentally stuck in their nets. We thank them for their awareness of the importance of protecting our environment and especially the protection of endangered animals,” reads the official page of the association. […]
